Good news. We're thrilled to announce the General Availability of Regional Storage for the Cloudsmith Docker Registry! ๐
Previously, Docker images and layers were exclusively stored in our Dublin, Ireland ๐ storage region, due to restrictions in our content addressable storage engine. This setup differed from how we handled all other types of package formats, which you can configure for storage in various regions based on the repository's configuration, including sites across North America, Europe, and Asia.
๐ง What's changing? Now, we're bringing Docker packages in line with the rest! Docker packages will now be stored in the region specified in your configured repository preferences. This update is a game-changer for two main reasons: Compliance and Performance.
โ Compliance: You can now ensure your data is resident in your specified region, meeting local data residency requirements.
๐ Performance: Bring your artifacts closer to where you'll use them, significantly speeding up throughput for transfers and reducing latency for access times.
๐ Bonus improvements! As a nice side bonus, we've also implemented general performance enhancements for Docker layer access. These improvements will lead to faster access times for Docker artifacts across the board.
How will this impact existing Docker images and layers? Cloudsmith will roll out this feature for customers throughout the week. All existing Docker images and layers will be automatically transferred to the storage region configured on the repository where they are stored.
We're committed to providing the best tools and features to support your development workflows. This update is just one of the many ways we can improve our platform to meet your needs.
Thank you for your continued support and happy packaging! ๐
